Polis College was founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of Turkish Republic, in 1938, Atatürk wanted, just like the armed forces, the security forces was educated in institutionalized educational institutions, that’s why he founded our school.
Today, there are nearly ten thousands primary and high schools in Turkey and each year nearly one million and three hundred students graduate from these school. They only have high school curriculum. In our school we have high school curriculum but we also prepare our students to the Police Academy which train its students as high grade police officers. So, the difference of our school starts at 16:00 with the beginning of extracurricular activities. We train our students in 15 different sport branches. These sportive activities help our students gain physical competence, discipline and team working. These competences are very important for their future profession as a police officer. So, we encourage our students for team sports. We send our sport teams to the competitions both domestic and abroad and they have good degrees in these competitions. All our trainers have trainer certificates, so they specialized in their fields.
We also have some social and cultural activities. Diction, poetry, oratory, writing compositions and short stories, theater, music, art, folk dance, polyphonic chorus are among these activities. These cultural extracurricular activities are carried out by our teachers. To sum up, we have both curricular and extracurricular activities that help our students to gain necessary competences such as team working, cooperation, solidarity, communication skills, fine arts, oratory.
The entrance exam for Police College has two steps; the first step is The Placement Test which is carried by Turkish Ministry of National Education. In these exams, about 250-300.000 students choose Police College. The list of these students is sent us in July. We accept 325 students each year for Ankara and Bursa Police Colleges and we call twenty fold of this number of students to the Police College Entrance Exam.
Police College Entrance Exam has three steps; interview, physical test and written exam. The candidates who are successful in one of these steps are qualified for the next step. As a result of the written exam we call the first 325 students and 325 students as reserves. We ask them their medical report and we register them.
The parents of our students are from different professions and from different regions of Turkey.
As a consequence, our students are in the first 1% of the most successful students of Turkey. We also choose our teachers with an exam.
We prepare them for the Police Academy not for the universities but if they want they may continue to a university. They are very successful in the University entrance exam. Our students are also deal with the European Union LLL Projects and they also participate in the information and computer sciences competitions. Last year one of these projects took the second place and another took the third place.
